When you’re looking at purchasing a property, whether it's in the city of Piscataway or Perth Amboy, it’s really important for you to look at the tax numbers. Even when your mortgage is paid in full, your taxes will never go away.
You are always going to have to pay property taxes on the home you own, and typically they are going to go up every year without fail. Unless you appeal them or the values are reassessed, you will see bumps from 1% to 5% each year.
Property taxes will never go away.
If you are paying $6,000 a year in property taxes, you are looking at $500 a month. That number is only going to increase. Make sure you are budgeted for and comfortable with that number before you get locked into a mortgage.
