4 Questions You Need to Ask When Interviewing an Agent
When hiring an agent to help buy or sell a home, it’s important to interview the agent to meet them and get a better idea of who they are and how they operate. But what exactly are the best questions to ask an agent? There are quite a few that buyers and sellers can ask to help determine if the agent is a good fit for them, but here are some of the most important questions to keep in mind.
“How Long Have You Been a Real Estate Agent?”
Like learning any career or trade, becoming a skilled real estate agent isn’t something that can be done overnight. When looking for a real estate agent to work with, it’s generally best to look for someone who has been working for at least five years. This gives them a time period long enough that they will have had the time to learn all the tricks and inner workings of the job. If a buyer or seller want to work with an agent who hasn’t been working as long, they can still do so. However, agents who haven’t been working as long can be prone to making mistakes that more experienced agents know how to avoid.
“Do You Work as an Agent Full-Time?”
Being a real estate agent isn’t a job that can just be done on weekends or during free time after a normal 9-5 job. No one would trust a surgeon who only worked part-time to perform surgery on them, so no one should trust a real estate agent who only works part-time to sell their home. Agents who work part-time don’t have the time to focus on their clients and do the best job possible. If an agent says they only work part-time, this is a big red flag, and all buyers and sellers should reconsider working with them.
“How Many Clients Are You Working With Currently?”
Time is always in demand when working as a real estate agent. Because of this, agents need to be selective about the people they choose to work with. If they have too many clients, they won’t have enough time to dedicate to each of them. However, the more clients an agent has, the more money they have the opportunity to make, and this can make some agents try to take on as many clients as they physically can. Always be sure to ask how many clients an agent currently has, and if they’re exceedingly vague or give a number that sounds outrageous, don’t sign with them.
“How Much Do You Think My Home Will Sell For?”
By far the most important question, asking how much an agent thinks a home will sell for is easily one of the most telling questions a seller can ask. If an agent says they can sell a home for more than it’s worth, it’s a giant red flag. Some sellers may not know what’s a fair price and what isn’t for their home, though. In these cases, sellers need to interview multiple agents. If three agents say they can sell the home for $250,000, but the fourth agent says they can get $280,000, that agent is inflating their numbers for the sake of getting another client.
Agent interviews are extremely important for both buying and selling Hudson County homes. All buyers and sellers should know that they are a good fit for the agent they’re choosing to work with. Using these questions can help find a great real estate agent.
