Mountainside is a borough in Union County, New Jersey, United States. Mountainside was incorporated as a borough on September 25, 1895, from portions of Westfield Township. It is ranked as the 44th top town in New Jersey, accordingly to New Jersey Monthly magazine’s latest list of Top 100 municipalities. The borough took its name from the fact that it was the side of Westfield, which was nestled on the mountainside.
